Extending the useful life of office furniture will often result in a reduction in the cost of ownership while preserving the original investment. Products that have been supplied to our clients over the years are of a quality level that makes it worthy of one or more of the “3-RE’s”: Refinishing, Repainting and Reupholstering. At COFCO, our furniture experts are trained to help our clients in the evaluation of existing assets and facilitating reuse opportunities wherever it makes economic and aesthetic sense. COFCO takes into consideration two major factors. First, is the furniture of a quality level that will justify the cost of refurbishing, considering new replacement cost? Secondly, will the refurbished furniture item bring enough value to the space plan from a size, scale and aesthetic standpoint to warrant the refurbishing cost? If the answer to both of these questions is “yes”, COFCO recommends that our client consider one or more of the following “RE’s”:
- Refinishing: This pertains to wood furniture such as panel frames, casegoods (i.e. desks, credenza, bookcase, tables, etc.) and the exposed frames of chairs or lounge furniture. This requires stripping of the existing finish, preparing and re-staining.
- Repainting: This is a simple and cost-effective way to prolong the lifespan of good quality metal cabinets, desks and panel systems. COFCO can perform this service in your office electro-statically in your office or in our facility. Our “at-site” electro-static process is neat, odorless, non-toxic and can be done during off-hours.
- Reupholstering: Recovering panels is something we do everyday at COFCO. Most quality panel systems can last for decades and are certainly worthy of refurbishment. When it comes to seating, COFCO will recommend reupholstering when applicable; typically chairs or lounge furniture of proper scale and timeless design.
Another aspect of refurbishing is the positive effect from an environmental standpoint. In keeping with our “green” initiatives, we at COFCO realize that every piece of furniture that is refurbished will NOT end up in a landfill. We estimate that we refurbish literally hundreds, and some years even over a thousand office furniture items or components yearly.
